SID data reveals near enforcement problem with speeding

The two Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) owned by the group parish council have been deployed quarterly over the past year.  The latest data shows that the average speed of 85 percent of traffic entering Luston from the direction of Eyecote was 34.7 miles per hour (mph).  According to the Safer Roads Partnership, the trigger for speeding enforcement is 35mph.

Luston Group Parish Council will be monitoring the data from future SID deployments, and intends to refer data that shows 85 percentile average speeds in excess of 35mph to the Safer Roads Partnership for enforcement action.

Top line data for the two SIDs deployed in February-March is:

  • Location opposite Lilac Grove measuring the speed of traffic from the direction of Nordan.  The average speed of 85 percent of traffic was 33.8 mph.  The movements of 37,224 vehicles were measured.
  • Location by the telephone box measuring the speed of traffic from the direction of Eyecote.  The average speed of 85 percent of traffic was 34.7 mph.  The movements of 25,156 vehicles were measured.

The SIDs will be back in Luston in May 2018.
