What is the Good Neighbour Scheme?
We aim to support the community by getting together a team of volunteers who are ready to help residents of the above parishes who experience difficulty with any everyday tasks.

The scheme is not intended to replace carers, and the volunteers are not allowed to provide personal care.

Who can benefit?
Our volunteers are happy to visit anyone who needs help, but particularly people who are elderly, disabled, isolated, parents and carers.

How can the scheme help you?
Essentially by just doing the things that good neighbours do for each other.  For example:

  • Fetching prescriptions
  • Occasional lifts to the doctors’ surgery or hospital
  • Shopping and running errands, maybe posting a letter
  • Practical tasks around the home, changing a light bulb or hanging a picture.
  • Help with forms and letters
  • Walking or feeding pets
  • Help with technology, computers, the internet etc
  • Giving information on various services that are available
  • Helping with advice following any scam phone calls or emails
  • Finding out about other sources of help
  • Or just calling for a chat

Who are the volunteers?
Our volunteers are local folk who are prepared to give up a little of their time to help people in our community.  They might well be people you already know.   You can be confident that all our volunteers have been police checked.

How do you arrange for a volunteer to visit you?
Please call us on 07749-920725 between the hours of 09.30am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday to arrange a visit. Most help will be available during these times, but it may be possible to arrange assistance outside these hours. There will be an answer phone, so do please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Would you like to join our band of volunteers? We can always do with more help
If you are interested, please contact us on the above number. You only be asked to do as little or as much as you like and you can specify the kind of help you are able to give and the times of day that are convenient to you, and which days of the week or month. Expenses will be covered.

Our local parish council has provided us with funding in order to launch this scheme, for which we are very grateful, but we will probably be holding fund raising events in the future to enable us to carry on. Watch this space.

There are six trustees, including Cllr. Ann Brandish and Ward Cllr. Sebastian Bowen.

Our phone number will always be printed on the back cover of The Community Eye for easy reference.
