What is the Good Neighbour Scheme?
We are a locally run team of volunteers who are ready to help residents of the above parishes who experience difficulty with any everyday tasks.

The scheme is not intended to replace carers, and the volunteers are not allowed to provide personal care.

Who can benefit?
Our volunteers are happy to visit anyone who needs help, but particularly people who are elderly, disabled or isolated and carers.

How can the scheme help you?
Essentially by just doing the things that good neighbours do for each other.  For example:

  1. Fetching prescriptions
  2. Occasional lifts to the doctors’ surgery or hospital
  3. Shopping and running errands, maybe posting a letter
  4. Practical tasks around the home, changing a light bulb or hanging a picture.
  5. Help with forms and letters
  6. Occasional walking or feeding pets
  7. Minor IT issues
  8. Giving information on various services that are available
  9. Helping with advice following any scam phone calls or emails
  10. Finding out about other sources of help
  11. Or just calling for a chat

Who are the volunteers?
Our volunteers are local folk who are prepared to give up a little of their time to help people in our community.  They might well be people you already know.   You can be confident that all our volunteers have been police checked.

How do you arrange for a volunteer to visit you?
Please call us on 07749-920725 between the hours of 09.30am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday to arrange a visit. Most help will be available during these times. It may be possible to arrange assistance outside these hours but not at short notice. There is an answer phone, so do please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Would you like to join our band of volunteers? We can always do with more help
If you are interested, please contact us on the above number. You will only be asked to do as little or as much as you like. You can specify the kind of help you are able to give, the times of day that are convenient to you, and which days of the week or month. Expenses will be covered.

Our local parish council has provided us with funding in order to run the scheme. This, along with donations from individual residents, enable us to carry on. We are very grateful for all donations.

There are five trustees, including Cllr. Ann Brandish who acts as co-ordinator for the volunteers.

Our phone number will always be printed on the back cover of The Community Eye for easy reference.
